How to convert the silver price to JPY

JPY per troy ounce = USD price per troy ounce × Japanese yen per US dollar. Use an exchange rate expressed as JPY for one USD. If a quote instead gives US dollars for one Japanese yen, divide the USD metal price by that quote.

JPY identifies Japanese yen. Use the JPY currency code when comparing quotes, since the yen and Chinese yuan can both appear with the ¥ symbol.

The JPY price can change when the USD metal price changes, when the exchange rate changes, or both. Holding the USD metal price constant, a higher number of Japanese yen per dollar raises the converted JPY price.

Silver price per gram and kilogram in JPY

One troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams. Divide the JPY price per troy ounce by 31.1034768 for the price per gram, then multiply by 1,000 for the price per kilogram. A regular household ounce is a different unit; use troy ounces when comparing precious-metal quotes.

For a purity-adjusted estimate, multiply the price per gram by the total weight in grams and the purity expressed as a fraction. The silver value calculator in JPY applies weight and purity to the selected price.

Why a dealer's JPY price can differ

An indicative exchange-rate conversion is a reference value. A dealer's buying and selling prices can include a spread, product premiums, currency-conversion charges, and other fees. Coins, bars, and jewelry can therefore trade at a different price from their metal content estimate.

Compare the same currency, weight unit, purity, and quote time. Metal data and foreign-exchange rates may update at different times; see our price data sources and methodology for the reference feeds.
